A once in a lifetime opportunity is presented to establish a thriving hospitality trade on George Street in East Fremantle, one of Perth’s most iconic, bustling, and up-market shopping and dining precincts. The Royal George Hotel is now seeking expressions of interest for the restored and revitalised heritage building with Realmark Commercial appointed as exclusive agents.

Highly acclaimed Perth developer, Saracen Properties, together with Michael Patroni, renowned Architect at Spaceagency, are undertaking the significant restoration and revitalisation of the iconic Royal George Hotel on Duke Street in East Fremantle, with restoration works to the exterior of the historic building commenced.

Saracen Properties Developments Director, Jason Potalivo said “We are privileged to be able to preserve part of Fremantle's history and restore this building to what it once was. Our vision from the start has been to create an unforgettable, multi-level hospitality destination within this iconic and much-loved heritage building.”
Realmark Commercial’s Sales and Leasing Director, Michael Richardson said “The development and restoration of The Royal George Hotel are extensive as it is a landmark in East Fremantle and WA. It is vital to hold on to what makes this part of Fremantle so unique and restore part of Fremantle’s history preserving it for years to come.”

The hotel, which has laid dormant and unoccupied for more than 15 years, is currently undergoing an extensive restoration that will provide a unique opportunity for experienced hospitality operators and allow the community to once again enjoy this much-loved heritage icon.

Realmark Commercial’s Sale and Leasing Director, Brent Griffiths said: “This unique, heritage-listed hospitality venue offers multiple levels, including provision for a bar, restaurant, kitchen facilities and associated customer and back of house areas on the ground floor with the first floor accommodating ten contemporary boutique hotel rooms or a dedicated function centre.”

The Royal George Hotel was originally established in 1903 and was a regular pit stop for travellers arriving in Australia through the Fremantle ports as well as a regular haunt for the East Fremantle residents. Previously home to The Swan Brewery, Castlemaine Brewery, a school, arts and community centre and a famous Thai Restaurant which residents still remember in the area.

Set in a federation free classical style typical of the gold rush era in Western Australia, The Royal George Hotel is currently being restored with heritage in mind, boasting stunning heritage features such as a Cupola, ornate balustrades, oak floor and stained-glass windows.

It’s expected that with a unique dining and entertainment offering, the restored Royal George Hotel is sure to be a destination for Western Australians, as well as tourists both nationally and internationally. An operator has an opportunity to put their stamp on the building, whether that be solely food and beverage, or perhaps incorporating plush hotel suites on top of the main hospitality section and celebrating the multiple heritage spaces throughout the site.

Mr Richardson said “The local community has always valued this building for its place in its past and their future. Restoring and preserving this building and adding the new adjoining development will benefit the community for years to come. With a great hospitality and entertainment operator, leading the development and contributing to the rejuvenation and life in the East Fremantle Precinct.

“The vision for the restored building is open to interpretation. The site exudes potential and requires an operator with imagination” said Mr Richardson.

Realmark Director, Mike Rowe said “Realmark Commercial is excited to be assisting Saracen Properties with the commercial space within The Royal George Hotel. The Hotel will create a new centre of destination for East Fremantle. A place to meet, host a stunning function or stay in a boutique hotel,”

The restored Royal George Hotel at Lot 330, 34 Duke Street, East Fremantle is available for purchase or to lease via an Expressions of Interest (EOI) campaign closing at 5:00 pm 15 March 2022.
