Workplace and team culture is a simple and much discussed concept, but in short it can be defined as the way all members of a team or organisation collectively behave.

That’s according to REA Group’s chief people and sustainability officer, Mary Lemonis.

“That refers to every single person – not just the leaders. Every single person in that organisation, in the ecosystem you’re operating in,” she said.
“It’s how we all collectively behave and show up.”

Speaking exclusive to Realmark team members at its recent Evoke convention, Ms Lemonis admitted that while a simple concept, it Is challenging to reach a desired standard.

“It’s a simple tenat, but hard to execute because we are all human beings full of multiple variables.”

“At REA, we use the analogy of a twin engine plane. Without strategy, the plane won’t go, and without culture, the plane won’t go. They are two critical elements that drive us.”

A key belief of the Realmark organisation is, to be the best, we care the most, which is a promise not only to clients and customers, but to its people as well.

“A culture based on care positions our team members to achieve their personal best results – whatever that might be,” said Anita Percudani – Realmark’s director of people and culture.

“We focus on aspirations, and provide the support needed to reach those goals, and we believe it leads to great performance and workplace satisfaction.”

Ms Lemonis also highlighted the concept of personal bests in her presentation.

“To achieve your personal best, you need to be able to find a sweet spot,” she said.

“What is it that you love doing you're really passionate about, what is it that you're better at than most people…and what is it that's going to allow you the life you want to live?

“That could be money, flexibility, travel, all those things.

“If you can try and be in that sweet spot for the majority of the time when you're working, you're on a good weekend you're on a good thing – but its hard it's hard to try and find that mix in that blend.”

REA Group is recognized internationally for its workplace culture.

Mary Lemonis joined fellow guest speakers Basil Zempilas, Sandra Brewer, Cath Hart, Sue Arena and Seva Mozhaev at Realmark’s annual Evoke convention last month.
