How to move right now

How to move right now
Who doesn’t love moving house? Literally everyone. Yet it is a burden we are all too familiar with. Moving is often stressful, exhausting and messy in a normal situation, and now in the current times it has become a little trickier still.

So, let’s get right down to it, to make your move as simple as it can be, check our top tips to get you on your way (and through the door sooner).

Ask for help.
We are savvy movers who acknowledge without the right equipment, moving is an even bigger job. Now if you have your own trailer, truck, or equipment that can make moving a breeze, you can skip this step. If not, we highly suggest reaching out to a couple of reputable removal companies to get a quote, you never know how better off you may be. Alternatively, hire the right equipment yourselves.

Get connected (and disconnected)
Don’t forget to make sure you have made all the right calls to set up, and also disconnect, all of your services and amenities. Right now, we would recommend not leaving this to the last minute (especially if you would like a hot shower and to watch Netflix after a long day of moving). While we are seeing business return to more normal hours, some are still operating at either reduced hours or with limited staff, so delays should be anticipated.

Materials make the difference
Look, we aren’t judging if you are using the giant black bin bags to move some of your stuff around, we’ve all done. But really, getting the right collapsible moving boxes, and reinforcing with tape can be a much safe way to move your things. These make for easy stacking in trailers and trucks, and are less likely to blow open, leaving the opportunity for your wardrobe to be strewn across the street. Right now, new is safer, make sure your boxes are clean too.

Prep, prep, prep
No, it’s not fun, but it will be a blessing in the long run. Start your moving prep well before 10pm the night before you are moving. If all your boxes are packed, labelled and lying in wait in a set room, you can utilise the benefits of contactless moving services. Prepping and appropriately labelling your boxes, not to mention not mix and matching items from different rooms, will make for just as easy unpacking when you arrive.

Many hands don’t always make light work
Everyone is always rushing to offer you a hand when you saying you’re moving right? No, of course not, however this may actually be better for you. When lots of family and friends offer to get involved in can quickly feel like ‘too many cooks in the kitchen’. Plus, right now, we need to all do the socially right thing and keep our interactions to a minimum. Keep it clean and under control.

Plan the drop
By this point, you should know where all of your boxes are going when they arrive to the new property. Try and deliver room by room or have a plan where all the boxes are to be placed. For example, all in the front living area or delivered to the room written on top. You can provide removal businesses with floor plans and instructions on where boxes should go. Keep some hand sanitiser at the ready, and your own pen for anything you may need to sign for.

While we live, and move, in this new COVID-19 world, it is important to always pay attention to and adhere to any advice and guidance given by our health officials. Make sure you are staying up to date on best practices.

Realmark can assist you by referring you to our Best Connect service supported by Compare & Connect. The team can help you organise everything in a much simpler way, leaving you stress free!
